Juliana Dickey, a junior at Independence High School, lists as a career interest elementary education. Hearing this, Mr. Harris arranged for Juliana to job shadow today at East Tate Elementary School in Ms. Young's first grade class. One of Juliana's duties was leading a question and answer session with students about the four seasons.

Meet Casey, a true team player both in and out of the classroom! She is a dedicated Law & Public Safety student and has proudly served as a volunteer firefighter in her community for the past two years. Casey uses her real-world experience to help her classmates by teaching skills she’s learned on the job and has even been selected as her class’s team leader.
Last year, she represented our CTC at the SkillsUSA State Competition in Jackson, earning 2nd place in the firefighting competition! Casey is a shining example of leadership, service, and excellence—an outstanding representative of what our CTC stands for. #TogetherAchievingTeamExcellence

IHS welcomed Jeffrey Dunnigan today to "Future Friday". Mr. Dunnigan, Enrollment Specialist at Lemoyne-Owen College in Memphis, answered questions from students who are interested in attending Lemoyne-Owen College.

Rounding out this Friday is Mrs. Liggins with her 25th day in her 25th year of education!

Independence High School welcomed Dr. Courtney McMullen, a 2004 graduate of IHS, to its two College & Career classes this morning. Dr. McMullen, the director of Associate Degree Nursing at NWCC, explained the duties and characteristics of a good nurse. She stressed the need for good nurses in our state and emphasized a nursing career offers not only good wages but also job security. To conclude her presentation, Dr. McMullen and several students donned gowns that must be worn when treating highly contagious patients. She also allowed students to demonstrate a pulse oximeter in addition to a stethoscope. Thank you, Mr. Harris, for arranging this presentation for our students.








It's the 24th day of school in the 24th year of education for Coach Chambliss and Ms. Kelly!
IHS welcomed Staff Sergeant Christian Barnes of the U.S. Air Force to both College & Career classes this morning. Also attending were three young airmen with less that one years experience: Noah White, Glenn Kienle, and Ella Wildeman. SSGT. Barnes presented the qualifications necessary to join the Air Force in addition to the degree and career programs offered by the Air Force. In conclusion, the three young airmen discussed basic training in addition to life on an Air Force Base. Thank you, Mr. Harris, for arranging this presentation.



Today marks Mr. Miller's 23rd day of his 23rd year in education. We are so thankful to have him as our principal at IHS!

Sandy Jo Martin, a 2002 graduate of Independence High School, spoke to our two College & Career Classes this morning. Ms. Martin, a licensed cosmetologist who owns and operates BeYouTiful Creations in Independence, explained not only the duties of a cosmetologist but also the duties of a business owner. After demonstrating curling irons and flat irons on mannequins, Ms. Martin allowed several students a "hands-on experience" braiding and styling hair. Thank you, Mr. Harris, for arranging this program.
