Slightly over a month ago, Lily Smathers approached Mr. Harris explaining her interest in both law and law enforcement. Hearing this, he arranged for Lily to job shadow today with Hernando attorney Greg Davis at the Tate County Court House during Circuit Court. In addition, Lily was able to talk to Deputy Sheriff Shane Whitehead, a 1993 graduate of Independence High School.


Coach Watts and her Child Development students have been studying aspects of parenthood and caring for children. This week students created their one of a kind 'babies' and have to care for the babies all week, 24 hours a day.

Congratulations to Coach Martin and his Lady Kats on their 50-37 win over Southaven! Sacari Burnette led the ladies with 16 points; Madison Holts followed up with 15! These two seniors led their team to a great victory tonight!

Congrats to Coach Farmer and his Wildcats on a hard fought victory over Marshall Academy! Jaylen Jackson led the Wildcats with 16 points, followed by Kenyon Dowl with 14. It was a great team effort by all the Wildcats to earn this one! Way to go guys! #wildcatstothetop


Congratulations to Senior Austin Eddie - he got first place in his weight class. He also received an offer to powerlift for Blue Mountain Christian College and he committed.

Independence High School welcomed Bethany Prudente, a recruiter from Mississippi Sate University, to "Future Friday" today. After helping a number of students interested in the Bulldogs, Ms. Prudente allowed several IHS staff members who are MSU graduates to join in.


Several weeks ago, Angellyric Stevenson expressed to Mr. Harris that physical therapy is one of her career interests. Hearing this, he arranged for her to job shadow today at Athletico Physical Therapy in Senatobia. Lyric is seen here helping Independence High School Basketball Coach Jerome Marin recover from a recent injury.

Mrs. Smith's 8th grade ELA students are "busy as bees" on figurative language and making anchor charts today. They did such a great job on this that they had "words jumping off the charts"!

Good luck tonight in Round 1 of Football Playoffs for our Wildcats! They play tonight at 7 pm at Tiger Stadium in Booneville, Ms. Go Wildcats! We are proud of you!

Independence High School welcomed Deanna Sides and Katie Roberts, a 2015 graduate of IHS, to our two College & Career Readiness classes this morning. These two ladies gave a very informative presentation on the insurance industry. They explained the various types of insurance (automobile, life, etc.) and explained the necessary requirements to obtain a license to sell insurance. Thank you, Mr. Harris, for arranging this presentation.



To allow Juliana Dickey exposure in healthcare, Mr. Harris arranged for her to job shadow today at Highland Hills Medical Center in Senatobia. While visiting the ER, the defibrillator was explained to Juliana by Summer Hall, Cadie Jeffries, and Dr. Manoj Mazumder.

What's better than our Lady Kats starting the season with a win under the leadership of Coach Martin? How about a win under two Coach Martins! We are beyond blessed to have this Dynamic Duo leading our ladies!

The eighth graders at Independence High School visited the Senatobia-Tate County Career Technical Center this morning in Coldwater. Among the programs the students visited were Law Enforcement, Automotive, Health Sciences, HVAC, and Welding.
