Independence High School welcomed Bethany Prudente, a recruiter from Mississippi Sate University, to "Future Friday" today. After helping a number of students interested in the Bulldogs, Ms. Prudente allowed several IHS staff members who are MSU graduates to join in.

Several weeks ago, Angellyric Stevenson expressed to Mr. Harris that physical therapy is one of her career interests. Hearing this, he arranged for her to job shadow today at Athletico Physical Therapy in Senatobia. Lyric is seen here helping Independence High School Basketball Coach Jerome Marin recover from a recent injury.

Mrs. Smith's 8th grade ELA students are "busy as bees" on figurative language and making anchor charts today. They did such a great job on this that they had "words jumping off the charts"! #wildcatstothetop

Independence High School welcomed Deanna Sides and Katie Roberts, a 2015 graduate of IHS, to our two College & Career Readiness classes this morning. These two ladies gave a very informative presentation on the insurance industry. They explained the various types of insurance (automobile, life, etc.) and explained the necessary requirements to obtain a license to sell insurance. Thank you, Mr. Harris, for arranging this presentation.

To allow Juliana Dickey exposure in healthcare, Mr. Harris arranged for her to job shadow today at Highland Hills Medical Center in Senatobia. While visiting the ER, the defibrillator was explained to Juliana by Summer Hall, Cadie Jeffries, and Dr. Manoj Mazumder.

The eighth graders at Independence High School visited the Senatobia-Tate County Career Technical Center this morning in Coldwater. Among the programs the students visited were Law Enforcement, Automotive, Health Sciences, HVAC, and Welding.

Junior, Avery Hanson, officially enlisted in the Army National Guard today — wishing him all the best as he begins this new chapter of service and commitment!

Ramon Medina, one of our seniors, commenced his internship today in the Independence High School Library. Ramon will be supervised during his internship by our librarian, Julia Kelly. Thank you, Mr. Harris, for setting this internship up for Ramon.

Mike Wright, who is a junior at Independence High School, mentioned to Mr. Harris several weeks ago his interest in civil engineering as a career. Hearing this, Mr. Harris arranged for Mike to job shadow today with Kevin McLeod, the civil engineer for the Tate County Board of Supervisors.

Congratulations to some of the best student athletes and coaches in the business! Our Girls and Boys Cross Country teams competed at the State Meet yesterday in Jackson. Our Girls team placed 6th in State out of 3A teams! Our runners were Juliana Dickey*, Daniella Najera*, Alondra Luevano*, Journee Jackson*, Carly Stricklen, Shelbie Helton*, and Gabriella Ashworth. Five* of these runners ran their best times of the year. Our Boys team placed 8th in State out of 3A teams! Our runners were Parker Brimmage, Brayden Allred, Tanner Seal, Hayden Garrison, Bryan Waterson, Xander Young, and Rodrigo Najera. All of these runners ran their best times of the year!

On Friday October 31, forty (40) Independence High School seniors visited Rust College in Holly Springs. After a walking tour of the campus, everybody gathered in the gymnasium where numerous administrators explained academics as well as campus life. Also, entertainment was provided by the schools a cappella choir in addition to a Greek step show. Thank you Ms. Hadley, Ms. Payne and Mr. Harris for organizing this event.

One last shoutout to Mr. Miller during National Principals' Month! Our juniors and seniors wanted to let Mr. Miller know he is appreciated!
