La'miya Jackson, a senior at Independence High School, expressed to Mr. Harris several weeks ago her interest in nursing and radiology. Hearing this, he arranged for her to job shadow today at Highland Hills Medical Center in Senatobia. La'miya, right, is pictured in front of a CT scan machine along with Jeanne Watson of Highland Hills Medical Center.

Join our student council during the month of October and wear pink every Wednesday in honor of breast cancer awareness month!

Addison Lindsey and Addison Savage were both given the opportunity to apply, and were accepted, to attend Mississippi State's Vet Aspire program because of their interest in Veterinary Medicine. Today they will receive hands on experience in a variety Veterinary activities as well as receive a tour of the Vet School.

Today staff members worked in the library, tutored 4th grade math students and had too much fun helping out in kindergarten classes! Thanks to the ET staff and administrators for sharing their little Wildcats with us!

It is a Great day to be a Wildcat! We are proud to share that our school has earned a B rating on the Mississippi Accountability Model! This achievement reflects the hard work of our students, dedication of our teachers, and support from our families and community. Together, we are making great strides and moving forward to ensure our students are college and career ready!

IHS Betas enjoyed the Leadership Summit in Cape Girardeau, MO. They competed in Collaboration Connection and Being a Better Beta and received a plaque in both and an invitation to compete in both at National Convention in Nashville TN next summer. Great Job Beta Club!




Independence High School welcomed Daniel McDowell, a local licensed plumber, as a speaker to both CCR classes this morning. Mr. McDowell explained how rewarding his 38 year career as a plumber has been and gave a hands-on demonstration of the tools and pipes used in the plumbing industry. He also allowed several students the opportunity to works with these tools and pipes. Thanks, Mr. Harris, for inviting Mr. McDowell to our school.

Independence High School welcomed Captain Chris Sisson as a speaker this morning in both CCR classes. Captain Sisson, who is a commercial airline pilot, detailed his career path. He explained that he received his private pilot license at the age of 20; his instrument rating at the age of 21; and his commercial pilot license at the age of 23. Captain Sisson pointed out that he flew for Northwest Airlink early in his career and is now flying jumbo jets for Kalitta Airlines, a transporter of freight, to places such as Japan and Australia. Thank you, Mr. Harris, for inviting Captain Sisson to come to our school.



Thank you, Ssgt. Martin and the National Guard for donating two brand new 70" TVs! We sincerely appreciate your generosity to IHS. Also, we want to thank our maintenance department for mounting the TVs so that we can begin to utilize them for our students. Thank you! Two of our wonderful teachers, Ms. Bowman and Ms. Hadley, will be working with some of IHS' students to make weekly IHS news reports and IHS highlights to be viewed on our brand new TVs.


Sergeant Quin Martin, our local recruiter with the Army National Guard, spoke to both College & Career Readiness classes this morning. Sgt. Martin, who has over 12 years of experience in the National Guard, explained the requirements necessary to join in addition to its college benefits. Sgt. Martin also stressed the importance of the upcoming ASVAB Test that will be taken by all of our juniors this Friday September 26. Thank you, Mr. Harris, for arranging this presentation by Sgt. Martin.

Sergeant James Drew, a recruiter for the U.S. Army, spoke to our two College & Career classes this morning. Sgt. Drew, a 13 year military veteran, stressed how the U.S. Army develops skills in both leadership and management. He also pointed out how the U.S. Army enhances occupational and career advancement. Thank you, Mr. Harris, for inviting Sgt. Drew to our school.

Independence High School senior Tyler Newson commenced his paid internship today with the school. Tyler will serve as an assistant band director for Seth Broughman, our IHS Band Director. Thank you, Mr. Harris, for arranging this paid internship for Tyler.
