Independence High School welcomed Petty Officer Stephen Perry of the U.S. Navy to both CCR classes this morning. PO Perry, who is now our recruiter, explained the steps required to join the Navy in addition to benefits. Among the benefits he stressed were income, housing, education, job training, travel, vacation, and retirement income. Petty Officer Perry also presented a video on Navy Seal training and wrapped up each presentation answering questions from students. Thank you, Mr. Harris, for arranging this speaker today.



Cody Scruggs and Brady Bozeman, two representatives from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Arkabutla Lake, setup a lunchroom table today for "Where 2 Wednesday". Students were able to pose questions regarding the Corps of Engineers and also received several free gifts.

HS welcomed Justin Boop of Schneider Trucking Company to both CCR classes this morning. Mr. Boop, a 14 year veteran of the commercial truck driving industry, explained to the students the necessary requirements to receive a commercial drivers license as well as the duties of a commercial truck driver. He also stressed the many advantages of being a commercial truck driver, among them compensation and travel. Thank you, Mr. Harris, for arranging this program.

Get ready for Homecoming week Wildcats!





Alee Dixon, superintendent of Tate County Schools, was inducted today as a new member of the Senatobia Rotary Club. Standing with Ms. Dixon is her sponsor, George Harris, who serves as the career coach at Independence High School.

The Wildcat Cross Country teams had TWO top finishers today at the Tobie Town Dash in Senatobia. Juliana Dickey and Austin Eddie both received top finisher shirts.

After Sandy Martin from BEyouTIFUL Creations spoke to our CCR classes last week, IHS junior Rachel Blythe expressed her interest in cosmetology to Mr. Harris. To give Rachel some exposure, he arranged for her to job shadow this morning with Ms. Martin at BEyouTIFUL Creations located in Independence.
